Trump says he will undergo 'semi-annual physical' at Walter Reed on Friday

President Donald Trump said he will undergo what he called a “semi-annual physical” at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday, about six months after his last physical.

“I’m meeting with the troops and I’m also going to do sort of a semi-annual physical, which I do,” Trump told reporters during remarks in the Oval Office on Thursday.

Trump last underwent a physical exam in April, also at Walter Reed.

In a statement Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump would visit Walter Reed, outside Washington, D.C., in Bethesda, Maryland, “for a planned meeting and remarks with troops” and that while there he would “stop by for his routine annual checkup.”

On Thursday, Trump said he felt like he was in great shape.

“I like to check it out, always early, always early,” Trump said. “It’s a lesson for a lot of people.”

He added: “I think I’m in pretty good shape, but I’ll let you know…Physically I feel great. Mentally, I feel great.”

After his last physical in the spring, Trump boasted about his performance on a cognitive test, saying he “got all the right answers.”

Over the summer, the White House said Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after he was seen with deep bruising on his hand and swollen legs.

Chronic venous insufficiency, which is not considered a serious medical condition, is very common in older adults. Treatment can usually include medications to increase blood flow, elevating the legs, or minor procedures to improve blood flow or surgery in more severe cases.
