Girl shot in the head at the Minneapolis school asked the viewer: “Please, just open my hand”

When Pat Scallen heard shots around the corner of his house in Minneapolis, “I didn’t know exactly what it was at first, but after the tenth shot, I knew something was wrong,” he recalled.

Scallen ran to the Annunciation Catholic School, where he said he saw a magazine on the ground next to the church.

“I was disturbingly calm. And then I gave myself immediately and ran to the front of the church, and just then they went out. And it was chaotic,” Scallen told “Good Morning America” ​​on Thursday.

The transmission of the church were children who suffered emotional and physical wounds, he said, adding that he saw a boy and a girl who had shot in the head and a girl shot in the neck.

“They were very scared. His mother and dad wanted,” he said. “And I alone, I sat down and tried to keep them calm, and I was seeing them close to see if there would be any change in their state.”

Scallen said the girl shot at the head: “Please, just hold my hand.”

“I did,” he said.

An 8 and 10 -year -old boy who were sitting in banks were killed and another 17 were injured in the mass shooting on Wednesday morning, police said. The shooter opened fire through a church window during a mass that marked the first week of school.

Fourteen of wounded victims were children from 6 to 15 years, and the three adults who were shot dead were parishioners in their 80 years, police said. All injured are expected to survive, police said.

The shooter, identified by the FBI as Robin Westman, 23, died at the scene of a self -inflicted gunshot wound, police said. A reason remains under investigation.

Scallen said that the Annunciation Catholic School is “one of the main schools of the city and the state” and that it is “integral for the neighborhood.”

“There is a spirit here, and I know they will be afflicted for a while, but this place will return,” he said.
