A father’s quick thinking and the quick response of Texas emergency responders saved a 12-year-old girl from the Thanksgiving Day tragedy Thursday, authorities said.
The girl was trapped when sand fell on her while she was digging a hole in a sandbar during a family outing to Panther Creek that afternoon, according to the Woodlands Fire Department.

“Her father ran to her and was able to remove the sand from around her head, allowing her to breathe.” the department said in a Facebook post. “When crews arrived, they found the patient with only her face and head visible. Crews worked quickly to shore up the area and then carefully cleared the sand to remove the patient.”

The victim was rescued by multiple response agencies Thursday night in Texas.

The victim was unharmed and released to his parents after a medical evaluation, according to authorities.
“First responders from four agencies worked together seamlessly to turn what was a near-tragedy into a Thanksgiving story that will be told for decades!” the fire department said.
